This drawing course is an introductory level course, where you will learn the fundamentals of drawing! Drawing is the most important part of every work of art, and often where each work of art begins. In this course, you will focus on the development of observational skills and exploration of drawing techniques, tools, and materials. You will learn technical skills and explore specific subject matter, such as landscape, portrait, figure, still life, etc. This is the perfect course for any beginner looking to improve their skill!

Supplies may be purchased at Michaels Arts and Crafts (a coupon is available on-line or in the weekend newspaper circulars.) A good range of supplies from economy to professional is available, you can choose what you wish to spend. Remember, successful artwork can be created regardless of what you spend on materials. Drawing Supply List: Drawing Pencils: an assortment of drawing pencils should be readily available for use. Assortment sets work well. Drawing pencils range in grade. Drawing pencils labeled H are a harder graphite, lighter value. Drawing pencils labeled B are a softer graphite, darker value. Ebony pencils are a nice pencil to use when creating darker values, it s a very soft graphite. Charcoal: vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, charcoal pencils. You can buy an assortment of charcoal depending on what you prefer. Assortment sets work well. Most assorted sets come with both black and white charcoal. Vine charcoal- light, airy quality Compressed charcoal- dense quality Charcoal pencils- most control Conte Crayon: an assorted pack will work fine. Looks similar to compressed charcoal. Tortillion: Also known as a blending stump these come in an assortment of sizes, a pack of 3-5 tortillions should be sufficient. Paper Pad: Pad of drawing paper, whatever size you feel most comfortable using. Larger pads are great because they can be cut down to a more manageable size. I recommend 18 x 24 or 11 x 14. I recommend Canson or Strathmore. Sketchbook Pad: In addition to a large pad for more realized works, I would recommend a smaller sketchbook pad for compositional sketches. I recommend 4 x 6, 5 x 7, etc. Erasers: regular drawing eraser and a kneaded eraser will be necessary. Any brand works, I recommend Faber-Castell or Prismacolor. Masking/Painters tape: 1" roll width Portable Work Surface-( optional) Drawing board, Plexiglas or other flat, smooth surface 16" x 20" to tape down or clip your paper to. Binder Clips- used as an alternative to tape. Ruler: any size will do Hand Held Sharpener: any kind will do Optional: Pastels: an assortment of colored chalk pastels can be used to add color into your drawings. Colored Pencils: an assortment of colored pencils can be sued to add color into your drawings. Ink: india ink is a great medium to use to create fluid drawings with lots of movement. Paint Brush: to use in combination with india ink.
